So let’s talk about muscles and weight training ... and why it’s so important as we get older 💪 I know I’ve said it before... and I don’t want to bore you 😂 ... but here are three great reasons to maintain your muscle mass as you age 💪 1. Weight or resistance training improves and maintains our strength to allow us to keep living life in the way we choose 🙏 By strengthening our muscles we reduce our risk of falling, slowed movement and injuries 💪 2. Improved muscle mass promotes bone mass and joint health by placing healthy stress on bones .... this prevents joints and bones from breaking down. By adding muscle tissue through resistance training we reduce the risk of osteoporosis, arthritis, joint injury and loss of balance 💪 3. Muscle tissue maintains a healthy metabolism and prevents weight gain. Muscle burns twice the amount of calories as fat tissue does ... so by maintaining our muscle tissue, through proper nutrition and exercise, we reduce the risk of several diseases including heart disease, diabetes and cancer ... and we prevent the weight gain that we see in many older adults ... no more middle aged spread!!! 😃 Doing 2-3 regular, weekly sessions of resistance or weight training is enough to protect against the wasting of muscle and bone that often occurs with age 💪 So those are the facts ... they may sound boring but they are true. I don’t want to get frail and weak as I get older ... I want to stay as fit and healthy as possible for as long as possible, don’t you!!!😃 So grab some weights, or a resistance band, and work those muscles.
